 Product Description

This vintage Chas Parker deserves a look.  It's not as flashy as some other restorations, but it is definitely ready for honest work again.  Chas Parker Vise Supply was bought out by a company called Union Manufacturing in the early 50's. This vise shows them using the flat plate for the collar.  Once they ran out of those, they started using the round collars on the inside of the dynamic jaw support casting like you see on other vises now. This vise had a bent handle and broken collar plate, and I replaced them both.

A note on making a new handle,  I always use 1144 cold formed CRS.  This stuff is a great handle material because the grain runs along the length and helps keep it from bending. I also created a set of teardrop knobs that are peened on for a pernment mount. The handle will bend like a spring, but has an excellent memory, and will return to its original shape. The new swivel clamp also was built out of the 1144 steel.

The flat steel horseshoe washer needed attention as well.  I do not especially like their design, so I created one that not only protects the groove from the grit and grime that falls from working, but made the collar out of material called Ampco.  It has a mixture of Aluminum Bronze which is a material that will not wear.  It's tough as nails, and will not wear your groove out. Please keep grease in there so everything moves smoothly.

The jaws were not replaced.  They have some damaged spots, but really not too bad. I did not want to make a set of new expensive jaws so that I could keep this restored Chas Parker's price down, and keep with it's older character.  There is just a bit of play in the shaft that most shops could live with.

The swivel base has the same type of brakeshoe type lock as the early models. It locks down great, and will not disapoint.  I painted the vise with Rustoleum Verde Green paint, and I baked it in the hot Colorado sun for three days. I have found this method the best, and it creates a lasting and strong paint job.

Remember the asking price of $225 includes shipping to the lower 48 States.
