 Product Description

This newer Parker had a couple issues when I picked it up.  Really, it was ready for the scrap heap, with its broken jaw ledge and no jaws. These particular Parkers had the rectangular-type jaws like Wiltons, and as soon as I saw it, I had a vision for how I could repair it.  It would be better than new---at least in my opinion.

I set it up on my mill and started cutting away.  I created an undercut to cut away the broken shelf, then increased a flat shelf on top like the other Unions.  I created a set of jaws similar to its older brothers.  By radiusing the tops, it made it look like it came from the factory that way. While I was making the serrated jaws, I added a smooth set too. The jaws came out nice;  flat, parallel, and hard as a rock (56 R/C). These jaws will not let you down.  Just in case you hammer on this vise and miss, these new jaws will handle your mistake.

Next, I fabricated a new handle. I always use 1144 cold formed CRS.  This stuff is a great handle material because the grain runs along the length and helps keep it from bending. I created a set of teardrop knobs that are peened on for a pernment mount. The handle will bend like a spring but has a excellent memory, and will return to its original shape. The new swivel clamp also was built out of the 1144 steel.

The flat steel horseshoe washer needed attention as well.  I do not especially like their design, so I created one that not only protects the groove from the grit and grime that falls from working, but made the collar out of material called Ampco, has a mixture of Aluminum Bronze which makes for a material that will not wear.  It's tough as nails, and will not wear your groove out. Please keep grease in there so everything moves smoothly.

The swivel base does not have the same type of brakeshoe type lock as the early models. This newer vise has the carriage bolt you see in the Wilton's and others. It does locks down great, and will not disapoint. There is a crack in the square slider towards the back side, so be sure to look at the pictures to see where it is. It will not affect the vise in its action and workings.  I painted the vise with Rustoleum Verde Green paint, and baked on out in the hot sun for three days. I have found this method the best, and it creates a lasting and strong paint job.
